Saudi Arabia, an American ally, will now allow women to drink coffee at home and in public without punishment of prison or lashes.

The controversial ruling has split the country saying it’s a step of progress for feminism and it will destroy the Saudi family. Both sides have taken extreme stances on women drinking coffee.

Laila Saad, a Saudi woman activist, told BBC News, “You have no idea how hard this law was to change. Over ten years and the imprisonment of hundreds of women, we can now official enjoy a cup of coffee or latte. I’m very happy and pleased.

“It might seem like a small victory to women in the West; it was a huge triumph for us.”

When asked what she will fight for next, she replied, “Our next goal for woman is the right to ride bicycles in parks and other designated bike paths. We think with the momentum we have going, it can be done in five to seven years.

“Progress is slow but is getting faster every decade.”

Starbucks is very pleased with the outcome. Spokesman Thomas Kinkade, who resides over Asia and the Middle East market said, “Before, we could only service half of the population. Now we can service the whole population and women tend to like more expensive, crazier drink options that will bring in much more revenue than a guy buying a grande coffee in the morning. Selling a seven dollar double shot frappuccino with whipped cream and caramel is better than a dollar of burnt coffee.”

Men Against Women Drinking Coffee

A Saudi man told Al-Jazeera, “This is crazy to let women drink coffee. If I see a woman drinking coffee, I will slap the cup out of their hands and I command all men to do the same.

“It’s about protecting our country from over stimulated woman. What’s next, letting them drive a car? Millions will be killed a year if we let them drive. Letting them drive on coffee will cause even more chaos.

“I remember when women were allowed to drink tea on special occasions and it was terrible. This will be ten times worse. Will someone think of the children?

“There are very good reasons why women can’t drive cars, vote, walk alone in public, cover their entire bodies in clothes. I forget why at the moment but they are good reasons, trust me.”
