The cable news network CNN has officially announced they will no longer cover any Bernie Sanders events or hold discussions on the Democratic Presidential hopeful.
CNN President Jeff Zucker stated, “There are only so many hours in a day and we have plenty of other news to cover. At this point in the Democratic Presidential race, we don’t see a reason to continue coverage on Mr. Sanders.
“We don’t want to waste airtime when we have so much other great content to show our audience and to please our advertisers. Reruns of Anthony Bourdain score better ratings and that’s the reality of the television business. We will increase the coverage of Clinton.
“If Clinton didn’t already have this race locked up it would be a different story, but that’s not the case. So, it was an easy decision to stop covering any and all Bernie Sanders news. We look forward to Clinton versus Trump or Cruz in the general election.”
CNN has already been criticized by many Sanders’ supporters for the lack of coverage up until this point and it even led to a protest outside the CNN building in Los Angeles on Sunset Blvd this past Sunday. CNN chose to completely ignore the protest as was their order.
A Sanders staffer called the decision by CNN to stop all coverage on the Vermont Senator “An abortion against democracy” and “CNN better get ready to feel the Bern.”
In a recent study, Donald Trump leads all media coverage by a substantial margin. Some estimate his coverage at a free $300 million worth. Hillary Clinton comes in second with Ted Cruz in a close third.
Zucker refuted the claim they favored Clinton by saying, “Listen, we gave him several debates and town halls. What more do you want? We pride ourselves in giving what our viewers want and they want to hear about Donald Trump. That’s the truth; ratings don’t lie. This is just like when people thought I screwed over Conan O’Brien with Jay Leno when I worked at NBC. We all know Jimmy Fallon eventually taking the late night spot was the right move and I’m right on this decision too.
“And I must mention that we did cover Sanders more than Fox News. So, just let it go and move on with your lives. Also, tune in every Sunday for our hit documentary series Road To The White House, narrated by Kevin Spacey.”
