A day after retiring from the National Football League (NFL), quarterback Peyton Manning has agreed to become the Vice President of Papa John’s Pizza.
Founder ‘Papa’ John Schnatter told Bloomberg News, “If Peyton brings his preparation first mindset, he will succeed and add value to our company. His hire is a real touchdown for Papa John’s Pizza.
“He was a great spokesman for consumers who like better ingredients and better pizza during his football career. It’s now time to take his role from the grass field to the carpeted boardroom. It’s a great free agent hire for us.
“My love for Peyton grows stronger and stronger each day. Now I get to live my dream of working every day with him under me.”
Peyton and the Pizza
Peyton Manning told the Denver Post, “John has been bugging and bugging me to join the company on an executive level and the offer made my decision to retire a lot easier.
“While I may not have a business degree, I do know pizza and have been working for Papa John’s in a spokesman role for many years. I’m honored to now be Vice President of the company. (NASDAQ: PZZA)
“I know I have a lot to learn, but I’ll be working very hard as I transition into my post-football career. What better man to be under than Papa John himself. I’ll be going from tossing footballs to tossing pizzas.
“It’s not about the money; it’s about better ingredients and better pizza.
Manning already owns several Papa John’s franchises in the Denver and Indianapolis area and will now work on the corporate side. His experience as a franchisee and spokesman will serve him well in his new position. “The only thing I love as much as football is Papa John.”
