Ted Cruz won Monday’s Iowa Caucus by a significant margin, with 30% versus Donald Trump’s 24%. Marco Rubio nearly tied Trump with 23%. The results were not pleasing to the real estate tycoon, particularly after the majority of polls showed him in the lead. And so Mr. Trump has decided to do what he does best: sue the State of Iowa over the results.
After a gracious speech Monday night thanking his supporters and opponents, his demeanor took a dramatic turn by Tuesday morning. In documents filed today in Des Moines, Trump named Iowa, the GOP, and independent pollsters as conspirators, plotting to rig the Caucus.
Trump supporters believe there was an intentional effort to trick Trump into believing victory was inevitable, in order for him to spend time away from Iowan constituents and preparing for New Hampshire and South Carolina. The false sense of security and human ballot counting has riled Trump’s fanbase into a frenzy.
“It’s obvious they had idiots counting the ballots,” Trump told supporters Tuesday morning. “Did you meet some of the counters? I don’t think they could count to ten let alone into the thousands. How do I know they could even read? Was there a test given to see what workers were literate or not? No one is going to take advantage of Donald J. Trump. If they don’t want to play fair, I’ll make them.”
Most people dread lawsuits, but as Trump has shown over the years, he thrives on them. “Well, I’ll be moving to New Hampshire, but my tremendous legal team will stay in Iowa to make sure the votes were counted correctly. I could have had blind people count better than the people of Iowa.”
Trump also wants $20 million to recover costs for “wasting my time and money in this shit state.”
Trump has hired thirty lawyers from New York, Chicago, and Des Moines to pursue his lawsuit. The case could take until the election to resolve, but Trump does not care. “While he would prefer a speedy outcome, he will spend every penny needed to win this case,” New York Lawyer Ben Cohn told the Cedar Rapids Tribune.
Trump noted, “This about making sure everything was done correctly. When elected president I will take this same strategy into everything I do. The courts are a beautiful thing and my enemies know I’m not afraid to use them. With my tremendous wealth, I’ll make them sorry.
“This also sends a message going forward that everything better be on the up and up or you’ll feel my wrath.”
