Holly Holm Tests Positive For Methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate

holly_holm 2UFC Woman’s Champion Holly Holm has tested positive for methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate in a recent drug test.

Holm had recently beaten undefeated Ronda Rousey for the UFC title and was preparing for her next opponent. UFC President Dana White will speak to the punishment early next week.

This rare chemical causes an estrogenic effect and acts like any other paraben. It is constructed with C8H6O3 with a molar-mass of 152.15 g-mol-1.

Methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate is also used as a food preservative and serves as an anti-fungal agent in cosmetic products.

Dr. Tom Simpson of McManus University told, UFC News, “I’m not sure what the levels were at. The substance is found in many people since it is a preservative.

“i’m shocked methyl hydroxybenzoate would be a banned substance. I know it’s illegal in canned jam contests.”
