Oscar Pistorius, the former South African Olympic runner who was convicted of killing his supermodel girlfriend, was released from prison after serving one year of a five-year sentence. Immediately after his release, a TV production company began shooting a reality show series on his house arrest that he will serve for the next three years.
TV producer Scott Disnick told the South African Times, “We are very proud and honored to have Oscar do this show for us. It will be very entertaining. Our goal is to shed light on what it’s like to be under house arrest after killing your girlfriend.”
Nicknamed ‘The Blade Runner,’ Pistourius became famous after running with prosthetic legs and qualifying for the Summer Olympics. He signed endorsement deals and dated several supermodels. Pistorius is reportedly earning $25,000 per episode with 26 episodes planned per year depending on the TV ratings. The house, located on a 15-acre ranch, will provide plenty of space to film.
“Oscar can cook, play several instruments, and is a really nice guy. We think the TV audience will love him,” said Disnick. “As of now, the show will be televised in South Africa, a few European markets, and we have been negotiating with an internet streaming service to bring the show to the whole world. It’s great to witness a man who has overcome so much adversity in his life and can document his next journey.”
The first episode will air in January and is titled Oscar Shoots For The Moon. Disnick said the tagline is, “Wait until you see what cool and fun adventures Oscar gets himself into next!”
